About the Artist
Hi There!
My name is Nicole and I'm the artist and owner behind Scimio Ceramics. A little bit about me: I love Jesus, my husband Nate, our cat Wayne, our family & friends, nature, music, and art - specifically sculpture!
My passion for art & sculpture started at a young age with a large collection of Sculpey clay, and has since been a constant in my life. I also spent many years baking and decorating cakes with my mom, Debbie, honing my sculpture skills on complicated designs and loved (almost) every minute of it!
A Different Path
After I graduated college with a degree in marketing in 2021, I worked full time in a corporate environment for several years. But, I always had a nagging feeling that I was meant to do more than sit at a desk in an office all day for the next 40 years.
I realized that my path in life has always felt a little bit different than the norm (fun fact: I actually wanted to be a singer for many years), and that my artistic passion could no longer be ignored.
With the support and encouragement of my amazing husband, we decided it was time I switch to part-time work to pursue a more creative, fulfilling life and took a leap of faith by starting my shop in the Spring of 2024!
How I Got Here
As I look back on my life thus far, after all the Sculpey clay sculptures and intricately designed cakes, I see so many other threads that led to this moment:
- My ceramics class in high school with a wonderful teacher, Renee
- My husband buying me a pottery wheel for Christmas in 2022 after I’d talked so much about wanting to get back into ceramics
- Miraculously running into my high school ceramics teacher at a garage sale (after lots of prayer & trying to find her contact info lol) and her inviting me to take a class with her at a local studio
- Taking said class (shout out to AB Ceramics in Jeannette, PA!) and falling in love with sculpture & ceramics all over again
A Gap in the Market
As my husband and I began to attend more markets and art shows, I quickly noticed that most potters pursue the typical eclectic, earthy-toned vibe that you likely think of when you hear the word “pottery.”
While those pieces and that aesthetic are beautiful, it became clear that there is a need for lighter, brighter, and fun yet sophisticated, upscale ceramics.
Good news: I have a passion for filling that gap in the market!
My Hope & Vision
My vision for Scimio Ceramics is to create functional, beautiful, and unique handmade luxury pieces that make you excited to wake up and have a cup of coffee, take a side dish to a family gathering, or give a thoughtful gift to a loved one.
My hope is that you'll find pieces that speak to you, or make you think of someone you love, and that these pieces will be passed down for generations to come.
Thank you for taking a moment to let me share my heart behind this passion project; I hope my pieces bring you as much joy as they bring me!
